ALEX DICKERSON
By Hunter Petroviak
From the West Coast to the East Coast, Alex Dickerson has made his way across the country in pursuit of a career in baseball.
Dickerson was drafted by the Washington Nationals in 2008 when he was a senior in high school. He chose not to take the offer and instead chose to go to college.
“In my case I wasn’t going to get offered very much money to go into the league,” Dickerson said. “This is your job, professional baseball. It’s every day, it’s tough, and honestly I wasn’t ready for it at 18, so it was a pretty good decision and an easy decision to go to IU.”
Dickerson chose to go to Indiana University and said that he chose it because of the atmosphere.
“I really wasn’t picking based on baseball programs,” Dickerson said. “We turned out to be pretty good while I was there though and it worked out really well.”
Dickerson was drafted again in 2011 by the Pittsburgh Pirates and currently plays for the Single A affiliate, the Bradenton Marauders. He’s looking to continue to move up through the system to eventually make it to the Major Leagues.
Coach Gary Green says Dickerson’s work ethic could get him there.
“The sky’s the limit for him,” Green said. “If he can stay healthy, I mean, he has the chance to be a very good, productive Major League player at some point.”
Dickerson is currently looking to make the move up to the Double A affiliate, the Altoona Curve, in Altoona, Penn.
